Dartington Community Choir: Carmina Burana

  • Great Hall, Dartington (map)

Sunday 6th May, 7.30pm
Great Hall, Dartington
Tickets £18 | Students and Under 16 £7.50

Carl Orff's most famous work is based a collection of mediaeval poems discovered in a monastery in Bavaria. It opens and closes with O Fortuna, one of the most recognised pieces of classical music, thanks in part to its many appearances in films, TV and advertising. In between, Orff creates a huge emotional response to the extreme ups-and-downs of life. Carmina Burana is an almost-physical roller-coaster of emotion, combining the power of rhythm and percussion with strong and simple melodies.

The Dartington Community Choir will be accompanied by two pianos (pianists Kristian Lindberg and Clare Talbot) and percussion (featuring Quartet19 - a dynamic young percussion ensemble based in Cardiff.)

Conducted by Simon Capet, with soloists.
